What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic focuses on the spine and treatments involve adjustments of the spine. The notable feature of this form of therapy is that it never involves surgery, and relies heavily on the Chiropractor’s manual adjustments by hand. It is an effective natural approach to managing back pain, neck pain, osteoarthritis pain and posture correction.

Our spinal cord acts as a communication hub and consists of nerves that transmit messages between the brain, through the spinal column to the rest of our body. For example, how we breathe, talk and process our thoughts are affected by these messages sent through our nervous system.

As the spine is closely linked to our nervous system, any misalignment or subluxation in the spine can affect our health and cause pain. Misalignment of the spine can be a result of poor posture, prolonged use of mobile and electronic devices, long term high heels wear etc.

Chiropractors can help to correct this spinal misalignment or subluxation through effective, painless and quick adjustments. These adjustments seek to minimize any tension on our nerves and treat the root cause of the problem.

Chiropractic treatment is suitable for people suffering from:

  • • Back and Neck pain
  • • Sport Injuries
  • • Headache/Migraine
  • • Whiplash
  • • Frozen Shoulder
  • • Scoliosis
  • • Arthritis

1) Improves neck pain

Neck pain is a common problem caused by sitting too much, time at the computer or mobile device usage. Neck adjustments are effective ways of managing neck pain.

2) Aims to reduce reliance on oral painkiller

Chiropractic manages pains through manual adjustments, not oral medication nor surgery.

3) Eases back pain

Studies have shown that Chiropractic adjustments are good non-surgical treatments for managing back pains.

4) Reduction of osteoarthritis symptoms

Some evidence that chiropractic manipulation may help slow down the progression of arthritis by improving the status of cartilage, bone, and the joint capsule.

5) Eases headaches and migranes

Adjusting the spine can be a better solution for treating tension headaches and headaches originating from a problematic neck.

6) Reduces scoliosis symptoms without surgery

Chiropractic can result in a noticeable reduction in side-to-side deformity caused by scoliosis.

7) Improves posture

Helps to correct poor posture, especially if it is due to too much sitting or slouching.

What to expect on your first visit

Health History

You are required to fill up a health assessment form. This allows the Doctor to better understand and assess your health history and concerns.

The Doctor will perform a spinal, posture, orthopedic and neurological examination by taking time to assess your condition and to identify the potential causes for your particular spinal and health problem. Subsequently, the Doctor will examine your X-rays and identify the possible causes of your condition.

Chiropractic Adjustments

Following the Report of Findings from the consultation, examination and X-rays, the Doctor will proceed with treatment recommendations. The Doctor will begin the treatment with Chiropractic adjustments to correct any misalignments or subluxations and problems with your spine. With regular treatments, your compliance will allow proper motion and function of your spine to be restored.

Our Treatments

Chiropractic Adjustment

Chiropractors are trained to locate and correct misalignments of the spine. It is a hands on technique applied to a joint. When the joint is moved, a cracking noise may be heard. The adjustment or joint manipulation helps to relieve pain and restore normal joint motion. People of all ages can benefit from manipulation.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy is a manual pressure technique performed by Chiropractors to relieve tight painful muscles. A trigger point is felt as a hard, nodular, painful spot in muscles, joints, or ligaments that is often misdiagnosed as chronic fatigue, rheumatism, or fibromyalgia.

Vibracussor Therapy

The Vibracussor uses repetitive vibration impulses to comfortably relax tight muscles, increase circulation and release scar tissue quickly and efficiently. The Vibracussor penetrates deeper tissue with higher frequency not attainable by hands.

EMS Neuro Muscular Stimulation

Interferential Therapy is a unique way of effectively delivering therapeutic frequencies to tissues and is used extensively for managing post-surgical, post-traumatic acute pain, edema, inflammation reduction, and muscle rehabilitation. The Interferential current crosses the skin comfortably allowing higher dosages for deeper penetration to treat deep pain. The frequencies interfere with the transmission of pain messages at the spinal cord level. Our Neuro Muscular Stimulator offers 5 different types of electrical stimulation such as Russian stim and TENS.

Flexion-Distraction Therapy

Flexion Distraction (FD) treatment is a safe, gentle treatment that is ideal of lower back disorders. The treatment can improve circulation and nutrition to the discs while restoring normal joint motion and alleviating painful sciatica. This is a safe and ideal alternative for those who seek to avoid invasive and costly lower back surgery.
For disc related conditions: It increases space between the discs for proper realignment and to improve circulation and nutrients delivery to discs.
For non-disc related conditions: It places the spinal joints into normal, painless movements so as to restore spinal motion without pain.

Frequently Asked Questions

1) How long will a session take?

An average initial consultation and examination takes about 20 to 30 minutes. The average treatment time is 10 minutes. For more advanced treatments, it can take up to 30 minutes. For your first visit, it is recommended that you arrive 15-20 minutes earlier to fill out the health history form.

2) Are X-rays necessary and why do Doctors require them?

X-rays provide Doctors with a picture of your body from the inside. This helps Doctors to determine more accurately the cause of your problem. X-rays can identify tumors, fractures, the extent of vertebral or disc degeneration as well as any vertebral misalignments.

Thus, we would recommend X-rays to be done so that an accurate diagnosis, assessment and effective treatment plan can be made.

3) What is a Chiropractic adjustment?

A Chiropractic adjustment is a specific manual manipulation on the spine to correct the normal function of your muscular and nervous system. The goal of this is to reduce spinal misalignment (or subluxation) in order to increase range of motion, reduce pain and improve overall body functions.

4) Are Chiropractic adjustments painful?

Absolutely not! Our Doctors of Chiropractic have many years of experience and employ gentle manual and instrument adjustments.

5) Why do I hear a cracking sound during an adjustment?

The “cracking” sound is air, gas and fluid escaping from the joint. It is the same thing that happens when you crack your knuckles. The patient’s bones do NOT crack during the adjustment.

6) Are Chiropractic treatments safe?

Yes, Chiropractic treatments are safe as Chiropractors have to undergo extensive and intensive training before becoming licensed and qualified practitioners. The hours required to become a Doctor of Chiropractic are quite similar to a medical doctor in their basic sciences and differing in their clinical sciences.
